The Project Stages

  1. Web Planning - The client wanted a more professional web site. We redesigned their current site to make it look professional and added content management and e-commerce abilities.
  2. Execution of the web brief - Delivery of each phase of the website build while continuously keeping in contact with the client to update them on progress and ensure they were happy with each development.
  3. Scripting maintenance - When we finished the web site, we offered the client a maintenance contract to keep their site functioning and secure in line with any scripting patches released for the open-source software used in their site.

Execution of the Project

Stage 1 - Web Planning

We suggested installing a Content Management System and shopping cart solution as the client wanted to able to update their own content. Having looked at different content management systems and E-Commerce Solutions we went with the ones we felt best suited the objectives of Revelations web site.

We provided a strategy for improving the look and feel of the web site, updating the content was easier because of the content management system.

Some aspects of design we took into consideration during the web planning stage and later implemented in the site design include:

  1. We included the company name, telephone number and address in the banner at the top of every page meaning customers wouldn't struggle to find it.
  2. The opening hours are also on every page.
  3. The navigation to the main parts of the web site appears on every page making it easy for surfers to find their way around.
  4. We used the photography to suggest the friendly atmosphere.
  5. We included a small note with a pin which said, "Come and see us soon." This is a call to action telling the customer we want them to visit.
  6. We added an eCommerce system for the client; they are populating it with products.
  7. We enabled updating content by logging into a password protected part of the web site. Anyone who can type could update this web site.
  8. We included a clear menu page to outline what food and drinks the café sells.
  9. The café is part of a travel affiliate scheme and earns a commission for each click delivered. We made sure the display banner was in a visible location.
Stage 2 - Execution of the brief

Phase 1: We designed the new banner using professional stock photography. We included all the details a customer would need to find or contact Revelations in the banner.

Phase 2: We installed Mambo contect management system and customized it. We also installed and customized a standard e-commerce module and integrated it into the content management system. Revelations are currently using the e-commerce component purely as a showcase catalogue but should they decide in the future to sell directly from the website this can be easily done at the click of a mouse.

Phase 3: We worked with the client to make sure the menu and design was what they wanted.

Phase 4: We wrote the copy for the web pages and presented it to the client for approval.

Phase 5: We provided training on how to update content on the web site and shop meaning the client wouldn't have to spend any more money on design for the life cycle of the web site.

Stage 3 - Maintenance Contract

We offered insurance against changes made to the PHP or MySql. We offered the client a maintenance contract for a yearly fee.
